Limited space? We have some solutions for that

We were recently called to two different homes to design and quote for two very different properties with one very similar problem, space.

We would all love to have a big kitchen. After all it is where we do the most socialising with friends and family and is sometimes the big hideaway at parties. (We find the best people always hang out in the kitchen ;) ). But when you don't have that luxury, the balance of home furniture and living can be tricky.

So how do we get around the space problem? In modern living environments such as apartments and even some of the more traditional terraced houses, we have to deal with space in different ways. We have found that there are two things to contend with;

  • Preparation area
  • Dining area
This kessebohmer magic corner is a perfect example of
space saving
Breakfast bars, whilst stylish are quite prohibitive. What you need to appreciate is that they narrow the size of your kitchen considerably. Likewise, if you are going for more preparation space (because you have separate dining room) you want to take the big objects away from the work surfaces to maximise the area.

"Things like a built-in microwave will really help" says Stefano. "Yes they will cost a little more, however the overall benefits, including the variety of choice in a built-in appliance, far outweigh the negatives."

If however dining is an issue, we would recommend a pull out table. These are great solutions, and done properly really can add a touch of style to your kitchen.

"The most important thing is that you maximise the space around you. Look for 'clever' storage solutions. We have lots of experience in this. We use a whole range of kitchen accessories to help. From suitable wirework to create the magic of a pantry within a tall lada unit, to functional corner units which can add lots of storage with minimal fuss."
